Every year, the North East Cherry Festival crowns a new Queen of the festival. The Queen selection process is a tedious process, involving a strong time commitment and multiple meetings with our panel of judges. Cherry Queen selection begins in the North East High School. The students are given an opportunity to vote for 10 female seniors that will make up the initial candidacy. After the first 10 are selected, rounds of interviews are conducted to get to know the candidates better. The candidates are judged based on personality, North East spirit, fire department support, desire, and several other factors as determined by the panel of judges. After the interviews complete, the field is narrowed down to 5 candidates. Those 5 candidates are guaranteed a spot on the Cherry Queen court, and out of the 5, one will be crowned Queen. The candidates then go through another interview, along with several "PR" events and functions, and after a limo ride and photo shoots, the Queen candidates are escorted to the stage by members of the North East Fire Department, where one is crowned Queen. The Queen is responsible for all raffle drawings of the Cherry Festival, along with various public relations events throughout the year, including various parades and meet-and-greets. | |
